Two Holocaust survivors, Oscar “Osi” Sladek and Asher Ben Basat, delivered deeply personal testimonies that brought history to life. Osi recounted his childhood in Nazi-occupied Czechoslovakia, the trauma of separation from his parents, and his family's harrowing escape into the Tatra Mountains—all detailed in his memoir Escape to the Tatras. Asher shared his early memories of fear and deprivation in Bulgaria, narrowly escaping deportation to Treblinka in 1943. Their stories served as powerful reminders of the human cost of hatred and the enduring strength of the Jewish spirit.
