Honoring survivors, victims, and their families through purposeful remembrance. This year, we focus on the lived experiences of those who witnessed history and the vital importance of standing against antisemitism today.

Oscar Osi Sladek

Oscar “Osi” Sladek

Born in Czechoslovakia, Osi survived the winter in the Tatra mountains after his family went into hiding. A celebrated musician and community activist in Denver, he is the author of “Escape to the Tatras.”

Asher Ben Basat

Asher Ben Basat

A survivor from Plovdiv, Bulgaria. Asher recalls the dread of forced labor camps and a miraculous escape from a train headed to Treblinka. He now shares his story to ensure these memories are never lost.

David Zapiler

David Zapiler

At just 7 years old, David’s life changed forever. He survived the harsh conditions of a Siberian slave labor camp and later found refuge in Kazakhstan before the war’s end.

Barbara Steinmetz

Barbara Steinmetz

Barbara’s family fled through Europe to the Dominican Republic to escape Hitler’s reach. She is a dedicated educator on the Holocaust, living by the motto: “Silence is the enemy.”

Hannah Sperber

Hannah provides a unique perspective on the war. Raised in a Nazi home, she later converted to Judaism and raised a Jewish family. Her story serves as a powerful testament to the capacity for change and the pursuit of truth.
